Course Description

UC's Network+ Bootcamp is designed for IT professionals. During these intensive bootcamps, learners will quickly go from entry-level information technology skills to intermediate networking skills.

The course outcomes are aligned to the CompTIA Network+ (N10-008) professional certification exam objectives and align with employer needs. Knowledge gained in this course will prepare learners for IT Infrastructure jobs such as Network Field Engineer, Network Administrator, or Network Analyst.

The course is self-paced with instructor support. Weekly check-ins and office hours.

  • Support from UC instructors and teaching assistants.
  • Certificate preparation curriculum, plus communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Recommendation:

CompTIA A+ certification and at least 9 to 12 months of networking experience.

Credentials:

This course prepares learners for the N10-008 exam and the CompTIA Network+ badge/certification.

Network+ professional roles may include:

Network Administrator

  • Manage and maintain network infrastructure (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls).
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Implement network security measures.
  • Perform network upgrades and backups.
  • Ensure network connectivity and uptime.

Network Analyst

  • Monitor and analyze network performance data.
  • Identify network inefficiencies and suggest improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with network policies and security protocols.
  • Conduct network capacity planning and forecasting.
  • Document network architecture and changes.

Network Support Specialist

  • Provide technical support for network-related issues.
  • Assist users with network connectivity problems.
  • Configure network devices (e.g., routers, switches).
  • Perform routine network maintenance and updates.

Learner Outcomes

Learners who successfully complete the bootcamp can expect the following outcomes:

  • Describe the discipline and career options in Information Technology and the specializations in Networking and Cybersecurity.
  • Identify modern Operating Systems, describe the functions of an Operating System in a network, and demonstrate competencies in navigating the Linux and Windows Operating Systems.
  • Compare and contrast the characteristics of network topologies, types, and technologies.
  • Given a scenario, analyze indicators of compromise and determine the type of malware.
  • Explain the purposes and uses of ports and protocols.
  • Explain devices, applications, protocols, and services at their appropriate OSI layers.

Who Should Register?

This bootcamp is for learners with some basic knowledge of IT, networking, or security.

CompTIA A+ certification and at least 9 to 12 months of networking experience is helpful.

 

Additional Information

Learners who are residents and employed in the state of Ohio, who obtain their industry recognized credential can have their employers receive reimbursement for the cost of the bootcamp through TechCred: https://techcred.ohio.gov.
