In this course, learners review key concepts and techniques essential for success in the electronics sequence. Topics include circuit fundamentals, resistance, node and mesh analysis, linearity, and the superposition principle for circuit analysis. Learners will study Thevenin and Norton equivalents, explore capacitors and inductors, and work through first- and second-order circuits using both temporal analysis and phasor diagram approaches. The course also covers the basics of complex analysis, AC circuit response, and calculations of AC power and power dissipation factors. By the end of the course, learners will be able to confidently analyze a wide range of electrical circuits and apply advanced problem-solving techniques in preparation for the electronics sequence.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the main components of electrical circuits, including resistors, capacitors, inductors, voltage and current sources.
  • Apply mesh and node analysis to analyze linear circuits operating under DC bias and AC conditions.
  • Use the Thevenin and Norton equivalent circuits to analyze electrical circuits.
  • Analyze first and second-order linear circuits in the presence of capacitors and inductors.
  • Use the phasor approach to analyze linear electrical circuits operating under AC conditions and calculate the average power either absorbed or delivered by all elements in the circuits.
