Course Description

Yoga Posture Basics 101 is an introductory course designed for learners who are new to yoga or who wish to deepen their understanding of foundational yoga postures. The course emphasizes body awareness, proper alignment, and mindful movement to support a safe and sustainable yoga practice. 

Learners explore a range of foundational posture categories and movement patterns while integrating breath with movement through progressive sequences. The course also highlights compassion and self-awareness, helping learners connect physical practice with intention and presence. By the end of the course, learners build confidence in their personal practice and apply alignment principles that support long-term well-being. 

 

Course Outline

The course focuses on the following foundational yoga topic areas:

  • Intro to yoga basics 
  • Standing poses 
  • Forward bends and twisting poses 
  • Hip opening poses 
  • Backbend poses 
  • Arm strengthening and inverted poses 
  • Sun salutations 
  • Yoga postures and compassion connection 
  • Integrating postures into practice

 

Learner Outcomes

Learners that complete this course can expect the following outcomes:

  • Practice fundamental poses: Safely move through foundational yoga postures, including standing poses (e.g., Warrior I & II, Triangle), seated poses (e.g., Easy Pose, Forward Fold), balancing poses (e.g., Tree), and prone/supine poses (e.g., Cobra, Bridge, Child’s Pose). 
  • Demonstrate proper alignment: Apply foundational alignment principles, such as keeping the head as an extension of the spine and aligning knees over ankles. 
  • Integrate breath with movement: Connect inhalation and exhalation to specific movements.

 

Who Should Register?

This course is ideal for learners who are new to yoga on the mat and are able to move from a seated position on the floor to standing. It is also well suited for individuals returning to practice after a break or seeking to refine an understanding of the basic postures.
