Course Description

Meditation 101 is an introductory course designed to help learners establish a foundational meditation practice that supports focus and stress awareness while cultivating peace of mind. The course introduces core meditation concepts and explores seated, walking, and reclined meditation techniques. 

Learners examine the purpose and benefits of meditation, common challenges to maintaining a practice, and practical strategies for integrating meditation into daily life. Through guided experiences and reflection, learners develop an understanding of breath awareness, focused attention, and mindfulness techniques that support a calmer, more present state of mind and a sustainable personal meditation practice. 

Understanding Meditation 

In this course, learners explore the fundamentals of meditation through the following areas: 

  • Introduction to meditation: Explore what meditation is and the different ways it may be practiced. 
  • Foundational techniques: Cover basic methods such as breath awareness, mindfulness practices that emphasize present-moment awareness, and visualization. 
  • Practical application: Focus on building a sustainable meditation practice, including strategies for working with common distractions. 
  • Guided practice: Include guided meditation experiences that allow learners to explore techniques for calming the body and mind. 
  • Benefits of meditation: Examine how meditation can help to manage stress and fatigue, while fostering a sense of calm and well-being.
